I have been working my ass off this morning! 1 sale so far that i´ve had to verify! It only took 15 minutes but it was worth it. Good thing we are all here today working because i´m sure people are raring to get vacation packages today! We are going to stop our all inclusive package pretty quick and start selling the same thing non-all-inclusive so if you want one of these find packages you better call me quick. 1-800-961-8354, ask for eric.
I´m amazed at the amount of traditions the mexicans have. Some of it is like witchcraft, warding off bad people and sweeping bad things out of your house. Some of it is just fun. So far i´ve gone through a few traditions. The walking down the street for guadaloopa until dec. 12, the parties up until christmas. Now, Christmas eve is the celebrated day here. Not to much is open other then the hotel zone and everyone gets drunk. Ruben and I played video games for the most part of the day and helped occasionaly on the dinner.
We lit off a bunch of fire crackers to start our party off...the girls closed the door in fear of the flying sparks. Then we had some snacks. Then we opened the christmas presents. I got a balero(stick, string, heavy top, shown in picture), slingshot, dominoes(all hand crafted) a nice shirt, some cologne, a belt, and some cargo shorts. So it was a pretty good haul.
Then we proceded to sing a song...me, ruben and debs mom paty went outside with candles, and deb and gisselle stayed inside. The story goes that when mary was coming into town it was late at night and nobody would let them in, so we sing a verse, they reply saying no, we won´t let you in, then we sing again, then they finally let us in and we light sparklers. It was fairly hilarious because i´ve never heard the song plus i don´t know spanish, so i was just making noises, but that wouldn´t change if i was singing in english either.
After that we got to hit the piñata. There were 2 different ones(shown in the pics) The second one was meant specifially for me, after i was done hitting it, there was a bunch of pancake mix inside. HAHA, jokes on me. So then we had some more drinks and ate prawns, crab, calamari, smoked turkey leg and salad. It was excellent. We also had "Ponche con Piquete"(sting), which is a hot beverage or "Punch" made out of seasonal fruits and cinnamon sticks, with a shot of alcoholic spririt.
The next tradition is January 6th. This day is supposedly the day the wisemen showed up bearing gifts. So the kids put notes in there shoes asking for a bunch of stuff from them and the next day they get a bunch more gifts, lots of candy and other good stuff. Debbie tells me, its better then christmas usually. Plus, they have an oval cake, all the adults cut a slice, whoever has a little white plastic doll in there piece gets to host a party for everyone sometime in april.
