Each holiday seems to be fairly interesting here. New traditions and all. We had a great new years here. Last week we bought an stove/oven for 300 pesos, what a bargain! So now we get more cakes, cookies and all the goodies. Debbie made a delicious chocolate cake for new years. Deb´s mom made a appetizer of salsa like stuff. It is basically octopus, tomotoes, onion, peppers, mixed in a bowl with some lime. It goes good on crackers and chips. So we filled up on that for a while. Then Ruben made some seafood mixtures. Basically clams, crab, octopus, prawns, tomato and white fish inside tin foil that baked in the oven with butter. Very good. Then we went for a drive along the hotel zone. It´s amazing how huge some of these hotels are down here. Most of the places were very busy. We ended up at the end of the hotel zone at km 26 where there was a beach. We got there just in time. Just before new years we had 2 traditions to do. One, rub money on yourself and throw it behind your back. Two, eat 1 grape for every 12 seconds left in the new year and make a wish for each grape eaten. Also, when the day started we put on red underwear to signify good luck in love for the next year. Gold undwear is good luck in $$. At midnight it was neat because we could see the entire shore of hotels. About 5 different hotels put on a fireworks show at the same time. None spectacular but still cool to see.
There are other traditions that people do here sometimes that are different. If you are hoping to travel in the new year get out your luggage and walk around the block.
What did you guys do for new years?
