Here I am, home again. What would a trip home be without fixing my mom's computer? The best thing to do while the computer is going at a snails pace while updating all the programs on it is to write here. I haven't written here for a while partly because I haven't had much time and also, I haven't really felt like it. I guess you could say I only write in here when life is really paradise. Lately it's been a combination of tons of work, getting punched in the face and taking a couple sick days because of E Coli.
I left for my California road trip a couple weeks ago after my hard drive crashed. I still haven't got a chance to do anything about that. I know i'll be able to get all my pictures back. My collection has already started out fairly decently. The coast of California is full of tranquil, amazing sites. 560 pictures were taken from San Francisco down to San Diego.
I picked up a friend from the SF airport at noon on tuesday. I'd only been to SF one time before to tour around so everything was still pretty new to me as well. We did pier 39 for the most part of the day, but we did eventually make it on the cable car to union square area. SF is unique because of it's many, many, very steep hills. I wouldn't want to buy a manual transmission car if i was driving around there all the time. It's kind of neat seeing SF in person because (I realize this sounds nerdy) a lot of the parts of the city were in a video game i used to play called San Francisco Rush. It was a car racing game, but they did a good job of replicating a lot of the sites there. We were going to get a hotel there, but my house was only 40 minutes away so there was no point.
The next morning we woke up and got out of my house around 9ish. I was pretty excited to get going and see what there was to see, plus, this was my trucks first solid road trip. Santa Cruz was the next destination for a good breakfast to start the day off. After rolling over the hill to Surf City USA we found a nice little restaurant right on the main wharf with a window seat looking out at the cliffs and some people surfing. After breaky and picking up some necessities from the local grocery store we headed down the road to Monterey, home of all famous Cannery Row and the aquarium. By this time it was already noonish and we had a lot to see. So we just did a quick walk down the row and into a few shops and jumped back in the truck.
Monterey had been the farthest south i've been so far before this trip. So not knowing what was ahead of us time seemed like it was flying by. The 17 mile drive, home of Pebble Beach Golf Resort, was our next stop. My GPS led me the scenic detour way in order to get to Pebble Beach, but it was a nice drive all in all. Very hilly terrain with a great view of the Ocean and tons of nice cars everywhere. One of the highlights of the trip for myself was to actually walk on the Pebble Beach first tee off and see the view of the 18th green from the clubhouse.
After rolling around Pebble Beach for a while we got back in the truck again to continue our Journey. Highway 1 isn't a destination, but it should be for anyone wanting to really see California. It hugs to the cliffs of the coastline all the way from Monterey down to Pismo Beach. There were a ton of vista points, hiking trails to vista points, and other various lookouts and crazy sites to see. The overwhelming part of the entire drive is how small it makes a person feel. You are driving 100's of feet above the sea level and the waves are powerfully crashing against enourmous cliffs and rocks sticking up in the middle of no where.
This part of the drive was the sole reason I wanted to do the roadtrip. Plus, since i live in California, might as well take advantage of it. The vegetation and mountain types changed from sharp pointy fern infested giants to desert like rolling hills and plains. Eventually we made it to Pismo Beach at about 9 pm. A bit later than we wanted to because the view from our hotel room would have been great to just sit there and relax with a couple of drinks in hand. We were extremely hungry so ended up going to downtown Pismo Beach and gettings some eats and drinks. There was a live Bluesy type of band playing at one of the bars so we ended up spending the rest of the night there. Day 1 complete! Can't wait to wake up early the next morning a bit hung over and rarin to go.
