Sitting in Cancun

Here I am sitting in Cancun at the back area of a local grocery store. (as pictured a

bove is my view) The grocery store is about 1/2 a km away from our house and is fairly large compare to most of the local shops. The weather has ben relatively cool today as it rained hard yesterday afternoon for an hour. When it rains it pours! It seems as though even the smallest dark clouds carry a bang in this humid environment. People here all seem like they have ADD. It´s not to often see anyone sitting still even in the heat. They are always going to the store for smokes, picking up kids from school, preparing meals for the evening. I have learned its better moving then sitting still wallowing in the heat.

Ruban, Debbies step-dad told me that the president said to the country not long ago, for people to make money they must build a business. He urged the poor to build a business from their home to make some profit. Now every block has a minimum of one business ruinning from the house. Where i sit now i see :

3 houses with the words ¨pollo¨

1 telefonica

2 mini-supers

2 Corona´s

1 sollucones

Usually these stores have at least one person in them buying stuff. This is pretty amazing because i am about 500 metres from the jungle. But if you look at the pictures each of these houses has about 4 or 5 people in them. The nearest major store is a good 2 km walk and the prices do not differ very much so people still tend to use the local stores. In Canada i rather drive to safeway to get coke and chips then go to the shell 200 metres away.

Debbie and I have found a favourite dinner place. They sell quaesadilla, sambres, tacos, etc... It is very cheap, for the both of us we usually get 4 sambres and 2 quaesadilla´s and it only cost 50 pesos ($5) The store has no name but its the best food i´ve had here so far...except for Debbie´s and her Mom´s of course!

I still need a good place to get my morning coffee. I´m sure it won´t be as addictive as Tim Horton´s but coffee is coffee right¿

I thought this was interesing when i first came here...they have major supermarkets like Safeway! There is also a Walmart that is open 24 hours!
