Here is a link to an article about how Google plans to compete with facebook.
The idea is called Friend Connect. It is beginning now on a few select sites. It sounds like an interesting idea. I already use www.google.ca/ig (igoogle) for all my news, notes, and most of my life organization. It works great for both work and personal life. Most web pages are updated via these great little things called RSS feeds. Like on the right side of my blog where is says Subscribe, if any web page or column has that symbol you can click on it and it automatically adds the most recent article to your igoogle tab. I admit, when you first set it up, it may take an hour to add everything you want. When it is set up though, there is not more perusing through useless web sites with a bunch of junk you don’t care about.
If this new Friend Connect can add event management and groups I’d be happy. That is the only thing I really use on facebook.
PS – Google, you can send me $5 / new user I link through this site please. That would help my retirement plan out slightly…but not very much because not very many people view my blog anyway!
