Hard Times

With one more year gone in history it is hard to predict what this year has to offer. 2008 was full of more break ups, wars, changes, revelations, and movement than the entire world should have had to go through in 10 years. It felt like last year was gone quicker than that idea I had that could have made me millions of dollars so I would never have to work again. They both should have stayed longer, especially the part where I wasn't working and getting paid for it. C'est la vie!

2008 In review:(no specific order)
  • I made $1000 on a 1987 Mazda 626, which i used to drive the Mexicans around while they were here
  • I took almost 20 solid hours out my precious life to fix my $900 truck for $300
  • Oil prices rose above $100/barrel for the first time in history
  • First black president ever
  • I got stuck in 2 airports for a loooong time (Seattle twice and Calgary once)
  • I went on a roadtrip with Tom, Tony and Ryan that took me from Kelowna to Seattle to go to the Mayhem festival(Slipknot, Disturbed, Airborne, etc...), then airplane to Calgary for stampede parties, then Donny picked me up to check out a potential job in Edmonton for a few days, flew to Kelowna to do laundry for a day, then on the plane again to Vancouver for a week and a half to do a course on Network Security and check out another potential job in home automation
  • the company I worked for in Kelowna got aquired in June, no one had any direction, the beach was nice while getting paid
  • At the end of August the new company decided they should probably hire me(with only a week left in my contract), so a decision had to be made within a week of if i wanted to move to Silicon Valley, CA, Edmonton, Calgary, or Vancouver...or take a few months off and go fishing, hunting and snowmobiling. My mature brain kicked in and told me money and experience would be a good thing at this point in my life. ahoy California
  • My good friend Mike decided he should move across the continent to Nova Scotia
  • Lance and Amy got married in Vegas in September, the bachelor party and wedding in Vegas was a great time
  • Thor and Chelsea decided to tie the knot in August in Vancouver, it was a fun wedding full of wine and drunkin entertainment
  • Curt and Jen had their second child, my first neice, Ella, in July
  • I bought myself a 86 Honda XL600R
  • Calgary friends, french girls and I got a free houseboat on the Shushwap lakes for August long weekend, the French girls got a personal tour of the Okanagan afterwards
  • Iron Maiden trip was a blast, we made it back into Canada
  • Metallica was not bad for an old guy
  • Fathers day weekend fishing tournament won by myself with a 2.8 lb'er
  • NSW days on the beach and floating down the channel in Penticton
I think that about covers it. These were just positive things. For a list of what happened in the world that sucks go here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008

Happy New Year everyone! Good luck in 2009
